Join us for a special retreat and workshop in learning to draw mysteriously interwoven and beautiful knots, step by step. These beautiful knotted forms are less complex than the ancient manuscripts of Kells, Lindisfarne and others might lead you to believe and can be another way to connect with the inner spirit through drawing. This course is an introduction to a number of methods to get you creating knotwork and understanding how to draw beautiful interlaced knotwork forms. Once you’ve learned the basics, it’s easy to find yourself falling into a quiet, contemplative state as you draw.

Over our time together you’ll learn:

  • Some building block approaches to drawing simple knotted shapes:
  • Simple structures such as Heart and pretzel knots, three point Triquetra Knots, and Trinity Knots.
  • Extended forms using these knots

You’ll discover how different shapes can produce unique knots and also explore the best tools to use to make drawing knots easy to grasp. You’ll have time to create your own beautiful simple knot project, and a more decorative project as you play with color, shade and embellishment. There will be plenty of free time to either explore examples from ancient manuscripts, short films, take time out for yourself, and/or attend services at the monastery, with open quiet studio time after 8pm.

No drawing experience needed, just an open mind and heart and the ability to make marks with a pen and pencil.
